Two-Year-Old Classroom Teacher (Closing Shift) — Starchild
Schedule: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. | Full-time
Starchild is looking for a warm, dependable teacher to lead a two-year-old classroom through the closing shift. This is a meaningful role for someone who finds genuine reward in supporting toddlers during a busy, transitional part of their day and in sending every child home feeling comfortable and cared for.
What you'll do:
You'll help create a calm, safe, and organized environment as the day winds down — guiding children through routines and transitions, keeping families informed with friendly end-of-day communication, and preparing the classroom for the next morning. You'll work closely with the teaching team to maintain consistency and make sure each child feels secure right up until pickup.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Support toddlers through afternoon routines, activities, and transitions.
- Communicate clearly and warmly with families at pickup.
- Clean, organize, and prepare the classroom for the following day.
- Partner with co-teachers to maintain a consistent, nurturing environment.
- Help uphold health, safety, and supervision standards at all times.
Who we're looking for:
- A genuine love for working with two-year-olds and patience for their stage of development.
- Reliability and strong follow-through.
- A team-first attitude and good communication skills.
- Comfort managing a classroom independently during the closing hours.
- A calm, positive presence children and families can count on.
Why Starchild:
Join a team-focused environment where teachers support one another and every staff member plays a real role in a child's day.
Certifications & Requirements:
Required:
- Cleared Level 2 background screening (fingerprinting through Florida DCF) before the first day of work — non-negotiable.
- Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start).
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of the 30-day orientation training (safe sleep, shaken baby syndrome prevention, and fire extinguisher use) within the first 30 days of hire.
- Willingness to complete the 40-hour DCF Introductory Child Care Training (Parts I & II), including the 5-hour Early Literacy and Language Development course — begun within 90 days and completed within the first year of employment.
- Commitment to 10 hours of annual in-service training as required by Florida DCF.
Preferred:
- 10-hour Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Ages 0–3 training — the credential most directly suited to a two-year-old classroom.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) — recognized Staff Credential.
- Prior experience in a licensed childcare facility, ideally with toddlers.
- Medication administration training (if the role may involve dispensing medication).
We support our team: Starchild will help the right candidate complete any required DCF training and credentials they don't yet hold.
